FDA Approves Xolair (omalizumab) for People with Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria (CIU), a Form of Chronic Hives

 

 

Xolair는 Genentech와 Novartis에 의해서 공동 개발되었으며 IgE 를 target으로 하는 human Antibody이다. 이번에 FDA 승인을 받은 것은 histamine에 의해 유도되는 skin reactions을 저해할 수 있는 약물이다. Xolair는 allergic asthma 혹은 asthma medicines에 의해 치료효과가 없는 증상을 가진 asthma 환자에게 적용가능한 약물이자 Persistent allergic asthma 증상을 완화할 수 있는 약물이다. 

 

       Xolair is jointly developed by Genentech and Novartis Pharma AG.

Xolair is a targeted therapy that binds to immunoglobulin E (IgE). Xolair suppresses histamine-induced skin reactions, probably through its reduction of IgE and downstream effects on cellular activation mechanisms.

 

 It is approved to moderate to severe persistent allergic asthma who have had a skin or blood test that is positive for allergic asthma and whose asthma symptoms are not controlled by asthma medicines called inhaled corticosteroids.

 

 

 히스타민은 외부자극(stress)에 대하여 신체가 빠른 방어 행위를 하기 위하여 분비하는 유기 물질중의 하나이다.

히스타민의 기능으로는 그 부위의 혈액량을 늘린다. 혈관을 확장시킨다. 모세혈관의 투과성을 높인다. 

항히스타민에 반응이 있는 환자의 경우에 적용 가능한 약물로 새로운 적응증을 추가하여 허가를 받았다.
